The Australian Government has officially announced a payment of $750 one time in August 2025 for relief to the Australians most affected by the rise in living costs.
Inflation puts its pressure on grocery, rent, and energy bills dragging costs of living up and this payment is envisaged under the broader cost-of-living-support package laid out by the Government. This payment will be delivered automatically to those whose criteria are met to reduce the financial burden on lower-income earners and vulnerable groups.
Who Qualifies for the $750 Payment in 2025?
Qualifications for the $750 one-off payment are based on either receiving specified Centrelink payments or DVA payments, or on holding a specified concession card. Usually, qualifying recipients would include the Age Pension, Disability Support Pension, JobSeeker Payment, Youth Allowance, Parenting Payment, Carer Payment, and, possibly, some DVA payments received by Veterans and their families.
Special cases include those who are Commonwealth Seniors Health Card holders, Pensioner Concession Card holders, or Health Care Card holders, and who otherwise satisfy the eligibility criteria on the government’s specified date of eligibility, expected to fall in July 2025.
Crucially, eligibility is determined by the state of affairs of the claimant on the specified date. If you then begin to receive a qualifying payment after the specified date, you may no longer qualify for the \$750, even if you meet the criteria later in the same year.
When and How the Payment Will Be Made
The payment will be issued in August 2025 and directly deposited into recipients’ bank accounts. No application will be required as Services Australia or the Department of Veterans’ Affairs will process payments automatically.
It will be non-taxable and will not affect income tests for other Centrelink benefits; therefore, it will not negatively impact any ongoing eligibility for government support.
With this one-time $750 payment, timely financial assistance is provided to those who are most in need. The support reiterates the government’s ongoing commitment to help Australians dealing with cost-of-living pressures. Eligible persons are urged to keep their contact and banking details updated with Centrelink to avoid any delays in payment receiving.
